Navigation menus are essential elements that help visitors navigate through your website. DigiFusion provides flexible menu locations and customization options to create an intuitive navigation experience for your users.
Understanding Menu Locations
DigiFusion theme includes two primary menu locations:
Primary Menu – Displays in the header area and serves as the main navigation for your website. This menu appears horizontally in the header and includes responsive mobile functionality.
Footer Menu – Appears in the footer area and typically contains secondary navigation links such as privacy policy, terms of service, or additional page links.
Creating Your First Menu
WordPress allows you to create multiple menus and assign them to different locations. Here’s how to create and set up navigation menus:
Accessing the Menu Settings
Navigate to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance > Menus. This is where you’ll create, edit, and manage all your navigation menus.
Creating a New Menu
Click on Create a new menu link. Give your menu a descriptive name such as “Main Navigation” or “Header Menu”. The menu name is only visible in the admin area and helps you organize multiple menus.
After naming your menu, click Create Menu to proceed.
Adding Pages to Your Menu
Once your menu is created, you’ll see various options to add content:
Pages – Select from your existing pages by checking the boxes next to the pages you want to include, then click Add to Menu.
Posts – Add individual blog posts to your menu if needed.
Custom Links – Create menu items that link to external websites or specific URLs. Enter the URL and link text, then click Add to Menu.
Categories – Add category archive links to help visitors browse your blog content by topic.
Organizing Menu Structure
After adding items to your menu, you can organize them by dragging and dropping. Items can be arranged in the following ways:
Top Level Items – These appear as main menu items in your navigation.
Sub-menu Items – Drag items slightly to the right to create dropdown menus. These appear as child items under their parent menu item.
Multi-level Dropdowns – You can create multiple levels by indenting items further to the right.
Assigning Menu Locations
In the Menu Settings section at the bottom of the page, you’ll see checkboxes for available menu locations:
- Primary Menu – Check this box to display your menu in the header
- Footer Menu – Check this box to display your menu in the footer
You can assign the same menu to multiple locations or create different menus for different areas.
Click Save Menu to apply your changes.
